Discovering, Sharing, Growing: Journey Church believes that life is an adventure to be explored and an experience to be lived through Biblical faith. Jesus Himself came to show people just like us how life is meant to be lived. As we become more like Him we discover the purpose for which we were created. We believe that Jesus Christ alone makes our journeys meaningful and purposeful. He alone gives us a destination worth the journey!

Fifty-fifty: Creating a good habit

50/50 comes from a time during prayer when the Lord spoke to me about creating a “good” habit that most Americans do not practice. That habit is putting money into a savings account. In the times we live, it is harder than ever to save money. With the cost of gas hitting all time highs, it takes everything many Americans make just to get by.

The Lord spoke to me 50/50 in 2007 – I didn’t know what it meant until the Lord began to give me the revelation – the first week of the new year I was to put back a portion of my pay every week. Then on the first Sunday of July, which equals 6 months/half a year, I was to give not 10% but 50% of that week’s pay, and it would come from what I had put back weekly. Therefore, it would not be a financial burden because the money would already be available. Then the Lord spoke and said to increase it by 10% over 5 years and watch what He would do in the area of finances. (now this also means that I still have to be a good steward over all the rest to release the blessing of God).

At this point I asked the Lord if this was just for my family and myself, or was this something for the whole church? The Lord told me to share it with everyone and it would be up to the individual if they wanted to participate in this. In 2007 many people in Journey Church participated. On July 1, 2007 we came together and gave 50% instead of 10% that Sunday. The Lord then directed me to challenge the congregation to continue to put back the same amount every pay period but to wait until December to withdrawal the saved money. This money could then be used to pay for Christmas that year without going into debt.

Remember, the whole goal is to create a good and Godly habit of saving and not spending every dime we make. It is never too late to start saving, but remember, this is not to put you in a financial bind, but to bring you freedom. So don’t wait until the month of June and try to put together your offering – start right now.

Five year vision:

  • 2007 – 50/50
  • 2008 – 60/40
  • 2009 – 70/30
  • 2010 – 80/20
  • 2011 – 90/10

If you have any questions please contact me through the office, I will be happy to talk to you about this.

Remember this is strictly at your discretion to participate or not, and we do not release who does and who doesn’t participate. This is totally between you and God. — Pastor Joey
